Welcome to Our Newest Community Building Project!
Since the beginning of January, the grade 6 classes have been feverishly working to understand what it takes to be a city planner and actually design a community. SInce creating surveys to find out what is needed and wanted in a sustainable community, students will have ample opportunity to design and sell their plans to their peers. While this project is just in it's preliminary stages, students will be expected to use a variety of math concepts and skills to solve problems in the organization and development process of their community.
Some of these concepts are:
-reading and marking Cartesian coordinates (on a blueprint of the land)
-designing and building a blueprint of a home with appropriate measurements for perimeter and area, using triangles with various angles in their home designs
Furthermore, students will act as citizens within the community and democratically negotiate the most sustainable methods of transportation, how to protect the existing trees and forests, and the most economically affordable housing given the land and what it has to offer.
Keep up with us as we progress through this journey!
